Friday Prayers: Over 5k Cops Deployed In Gzb | Ghaziabad News – Times of India

GHAZIABAD: Elaborate security arrangements have been made across Ghaziabad for Friday prayers. Over 5,000 police personnel including those from the Provincial Armed Constabulary, have been deployed. Cops are also using drones equipped with cameras to keep an eye on sensitive areas.
Last Friday, violent protests were reported in a few districts of UP over a controversial statement made by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Mohammad. People had conducted marches and pelted stones at cops.
According to senior officers, the anti-terror squad and police carried out a joint checking spree at public places and bus stations on Thursday. Cops are also checking buses and other local transport, as well as hotels, lodges, roadside eateries. A senior police officer said Ghaziabad has over 150 mosques and 42 madrassas and cops are keeping an eye on each of them.
“We are conducting special checks at 60 border points and using drones at sensitive places. We divided Ghaziabad into 56 sectors, including 14 highly sensitive areas in Loni, Kaila Bhatta, Muradnagar and Masuri. Heavy police force, including PAC personnel, has been deployed in all sensitive areas. Police have already conducted a peaceful meeting in these areas,” he added.
SP (city-1) Nipurn Aggarwal told TOI that two quick response teams comprising sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads have been constituted. “People are advised not to share any unverified content on social media. Any non-permitted public gathering is strictly prohibited. Stringent action will be taken against people who try to create public disturbance,” the cop added.
Cops have sent details of 30 social media accounts to the authorities concerned and got them closed down. Cyber police teams are screening over 1,000 other accounts, an officer said.
